Favourite Female Indie Singer … to date.

Other than Regina Spektor, I find this singer really amazing. She’s a harpist. She’s JOANNA NEWSOM!!!

And that’s the perfect pose to explain the awkwardness that I simply adore.

She performed in Singapore after some throat surgery. I heard she still sounds perfect as before. She changes chords into some falsetto with ease.

2 of my favourite songs from her are “Emily”[ Beware the song is like 12 minutes] and another is “Peach Plum Pear”

She puzzles words well into her lyrics. Here’s a sample from the song, “On a good day”

I saw a life, and I called it mine.
I saw it, drawn so sweet and fine,
and I had begun to fill in all the lines,
right down to what we’d name her.

Our nature does not change by will.
In the winter, ’round the ruined mill,
the creek is lying, flat and still;
it is water,
though it’s frozen.”

Ain’t that beautiful? While it is a perfect song to sleep with, it’s a great song to think about.  It’s so poetic.
