Letters to a young poet.

This is a scene from Sister Act 2. It talks about following your passion and building your life around what brings you joy. Very cheesy in my words, so watch the clip.

If you wake up in the morning you can think of nothing but writing, then you’re a writer

There is only one thing you should do.Go into yourself. Find out the reason that commands you to write; see whether it has spread its roots into the very depths of your heart; confess to yourself whether you would have to die if you were forbidden to write.

This most of all: ask yourself in the most silent hour of your night: must I write? Dig into yourself for a deep answer. And if this answer rings out in assent, if you meet this solemn question with a strong, simple “I must,” then build your life in accordance with this necessity; your while life, even into its humblest and most indifferent hour, must become a sign and witness to this impulse.”

I find this very inspirational and it took a while for it to sink . But anything that makes your life worth living, should be embraced and be worked on. If it makes you happy, then there’s no reason to stop doing whatever you love.

It’s a very straight forward quote but the challenge arise only at that moment in time when you have to make that life-changing decision. That’s when we all have to think deep for an answer.
